Swan James

Although born in Oklahoma, Swan James and her family moved to Klamath Falls, Oregon, when she was a toddler.  Graduating from high school there, she attended Southern Oregon College in Ashland, Oregon, before transferring to Chico State University where she received a BA in Education.  Her 38-year teaching and counseling career were primarily in the Carson City, Nevada, area where she obtained her Master's degree in counseling and personnel services.  Swan served as co-director of the gifted and talented program in Douglas County for several years and shortly before her retirement transferred back to a secondary level where she taught Honors English and World History.  Her post-graduate work was at the University of Connecticut. focusing on the personality and creative characteristics of highly gifted people. 

In Greenbrier County, where she has lived since 2009. she has been involved in several community organizations.  She is a member of Greenbrier Valley Chorale, Maxwelton Ruritan, Friends of the Library, Carnegie Hall Guild,  and serves on the vestry of St. James Episcopal Church. She also acts as secretary on the SARA board  Earlier on she sat on the board of Trillium Performing Arts, Greenbrier Valley Chorale, and TT Car Club which awards scholarships each year to both Greenbrier East and Greenbrier West High Schools.

Hobbies include gardening, painting, reading(and is a member of one book group), music, and most importantly--travel.
